HRIS Awards Testing Program for Uniting

Industry: Community Services, Aged Care, and Healthcare

Project Overview: Uniting engaged in a comprehensive HRIS Awards Testing program as part of their Human Resource Information System (HRIS) implementation. The project aimed to ensure compliance with enterprise award rules across multiple sectors, including aged care, health services, and early learning. Given the complexity of award interpretation and payroll accuracy, a structured testing approach was crucial.

Testpoint was selected as the testing partner due to our extensive experience in similar engagements and our proven accelerators that streamline test execution, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in compliance validation.

    Challenges Faced:

    • High Volume of Test Cases: The program involved thousands of test cases, with a focus on high-priority award rules requiring meticulous validation to ensure compliance and accuracy.
    • Testing Velocity vs. Timeline Constraints: Execution delays impacted the overall testing progress, necessitating optimised test execution strategies and prioritisation of high-risk areas.
    • Defect Management: A structured resolution plan was essential to ensure seamless functionality, with defects categorised and resolved in alignment with business priorities.
    • Business Decision Dependencies: Key business decisions, including shift worker configurations and policy finalisations, played a critical role in shaping the test execution timeline.
    • AlayaCare Integration: Ensuring compatibility with third-party systems required a strategic approach, addressing potential disruptions and aligning system functionalities effectively.

Approach & Execution: The testing program adopted a risk-based approach, prioritising high-impact test cases that were reviewed and validated by Uniting’s Business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Key execution strategies included:

    • Defect Resolution Plan: A focused approach to defect resolution ensured business-critical processes remained unaffected, with defects classified based on severity and impact.
    • Revised Test Scope: Aligning test cases with award compliance for Aged Care, Healthcare, and Early Learning sectors, optimising test coverage while maintaining accuracy.
    • Accelerator Tool Evaluation: Leveraging innovative tools to streamline test data entry, automate test execution, and enhance test cycle efficiency.
    • Monitoring & Mitigation: Continuous assessment and agile mitigation strategies ensured smooth progress, with regular status updates and proactive risk management to avoid delays.
    • Integrated Testing Methodology: The entire testing methodology utilised Vansah Test Management for Jira and Confluence, including a test automation framework to support successful delivery. Real-time dashboards provided instant access to critical testing insights, ensuring traceability and informed decision-making throughout the testing lifecycle.

    Key Areas of Impact:

    • Aged Care Sector: Ensuring precise award interpretations and payroll calculations to support compliance with evolving industry regulations.
    • Healthcare Services: Validating complex timekeeping and scheduling requirements for medical practitioners and nursing staff.
    • Early Learning: Addressing the unique award structures governing educators and childcare professionals, ensuring adherence to policy frameworks.
    • Enterprise-wide Compliance: Strengthening workforce management by delivering a standardised, scalable testing framework tailored to Uniting’s operational needs.

Outcome & Future Steps: Despite challenges, Uniting’s HRIS Awards Testing program has positioned the organisation for a successful transformation. By implementing a structured and strategic testing framework, Uniting reinforced its commitment to delivering exceptional workforce management solutions.

This initiative underscored Uniting’s dedication to operational excellence across aged care, healthcare, and early learning services, ensuring award compliance, efficiency, and enhanced employee experience.
